HeartMath and Horses

February 1, 2024

I’m known to geek out at times and one of my favorite places to go down the rabbit hole is visiting HeartMath Institute’s website. This nonprofit has been on my radar for over 30 years and is one of my inspirations for starting Haberman Harmonics.

Being the sensitive, heart-centered woman that I am, you can see why I vibe with the HMI:

Vision

A kinder, heart-centered world where we care for one another and live harmoniously in peace.

Mission

To co-create a kinder, more compassionate world by conducting interconnectivity research and providing heart-based, science-proven tools for raising humanity’s baseline consciousness from separation and discord to compassionate care and cooperation.

Our Cause: Awakening the Heart of Humanity

HMI is committed to helping awaken the heart of humanity. We believe that when we align and connect our hearts and minds and connect with others, we awaken the higher mental, emotional and spiritual capacities that frequently lie dormant.

I first learned about HMI through Nina Utne, when I was promoting Utne Magazine. I loved learning about the scientific research on the heart’s intelligence. Years later, HMI showed up again when I spent time with Lisa Arie, founder of Vista Caballo. I had a transformational experience with Lisa and her horses, which led me on my path to becoming an equine experiential learning guide. Lisa conducted research with HMI and here’s what Rollin McCraty, Director of Research, concluded:

“Our research has found that the hearts magnetic field can easily be measured radiating outside the body and that our emotional states are reflected in the information riding on these fields. It was also shown that horses inner states are also reflected in their heart rhythms and that their heart rhythm patterns change in response to the emotional states of humans, especially when we are feeling a positive emotion. It appears that being with horses can help us become more coherent, a state that is associated with reduced stress, and improved cognitive functions and decision making capacity. Vista Caballo’s data supports the perspective that the human-horse connection enables participants to naturally benefit from the power of the heart to increase their humanistic thinking and social optimism — which is precisely what the world needs more of.”

Harmonically Yours,

Sarah
